Shinzo Abe visit: Palghar farmers protest against Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, fear land acquisition
Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Thursday launched the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, a group of farmers from Boisar in Palghar district protested against the project fearing acquisition of their lands. The farmers, who held the demonstration outside Boisar railway station, said they will be ruined if their agricultural lands are acquired for the project.
Leopard attack near Mumbai: Pet dog and calf killed, pani-puri vendor attacked
The forest department on Wednesday set up camera traps in villages of Palghar district after a leopard killed a pet dog and a calf on Sunday night, while another leopard attacked a pani-puri vendor on Tuesday afternoon. The officials said trap cages will be set up once they zero in on the animal's location. Later, the animal killed a calf owned by Pandarinath Patil. The leopard did not eat either of the animals, said Nanasaheb Ladkat, deputy conservator of forests, Dahanu division.
4 Including Young Girl Washed Away In Heavy Rain Near Mumbai
Four persons, including a three-year-old girl, were washed away in separate incidents following heavy rain in neighbouring Maharashtra's Palghar district, about 87 km from Mumbai. Of the four, the body of the minor girl has been recovered so far, Palghar police said. When their vehicle reached Waghoba Khind, it skidded and the girl fell into the flood water. In another incident, a youth fell into a swollen nullah in Palghar town and was washed away.

A 20-year-old woman from Udhna in Surat, Divya Anil Oza, travelled in long-distance trains without food and water for three days to escape torture by her in-laws, said police. The woman fell unconscious in the Porbander-Mumbai Saurashtra Janta Express on Saturday. Alert passengers informed police inspector Pramod Babar of Palghar GRP, who then got Oza admitted to a government hospital in Boisar. To escape that, she stepped out of her house and boarded trains to unknown destinations for three days.
