The Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI inquiry into the alleged custodial death of Ziyauddin Raza, who was found hanging inside Katoratal police station on February 28. The Division Bench of Chief Justice K M Joseph and Justice V K Bisht said the probe into Raza's death by the CB-CID would be transferred to the CBI. On March 22, the High Court had taken note of the case after Raza's father Mohammad Yameen (59) approached the court seeking a CBI probe.
Sambhal police have invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against three accused who are currently in Moradabad district jail in connection with a case lodged under the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act. A case was lodged at Baniather police station on August 3 after a police team raided Kasanpur village following a tip-off about alleged cow slaughter. Two other accused, Babu and Sharafat, were granted bail and released from jail soon after their arrest.

Claiming that his government has removed 'jungle raj' from Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said there has not been a single incident of riot in the state during the last six months he has been in power. The BJP had stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh in the Assembly elections with a massive majority following which Adityanath took over on March 19.
The incident allegedly took place on September 16. After the girl's family members noticed a change in her behaviour, they questioned her and the class three student narrated the incident to them, the police said. He was rescued by the police, Senior Superintendent of Police Jogendra Kumar said. There was laxity on part of the school management and a probe into the matter is on, the SSP said. The Uttar Pradesh police has recently issued directives to schools to beef up security.
The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) on Tuesday expressed concerns at the seeming regularity of encounter deaths of alleged criminals in Uttar Pradesh. It said about 15 people have been killed, 481 arrests made, and 88 police personnel injured and noted that this is exceptionally unusual. The UP Police is mandated to guarantee that the constitutional rights and legal safeguards of all arrested persons are upheld at every stage.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday presented his government's report card, six months after storming to power in March this year. After March 2017, there hasn't been a single incident of riot. Prior to that, we had seen cases of riots taking place in the state, Yogi said. Fifty two farmers in Madhya Pradesh have together received a little over Rs 3,000 as insurance claim under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for their soybean crop loss. The farmers belong to Tilaria village in Sehore district, which happens to be the home turf of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested the proprietor of the company that supplied oxygen to the BRD Medical College Hospital at Gorakhpur, where nearly 30 children died in a day due to oxygen shortage last month. Police sources here said Manish Bhandari, owner of Pushpa Sales that had the contract to supply oxygen to the hospital, was arrested on the outskirts of Gorakhpur town on Sunday morning. Bhandari was produced before a district court later in the day which remanded him in judicial custody.

A class 9 student fell to her death from the third floor of a school building in Deoria, police said on Tuesday, as her father alleged that she had been pushed. The incident took place at the Modern City Montessori school on Monday. The 15-year-old had reportedly gone to the toilet on the third floor of the school. She was taken to a local hospital, which referred her to Gorakhpur but succumbed to her injuries on the way, the official said.
A class nine girl student, studying in a private school in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, died on Monday after falling off the third storey of the school building, police said. Deceased Neetu Chauhan, 16, was found lying on the ground of the Modern City Montessori School in a critical condition. She had gone to toilet, located on the third floor, and her classroom was on the first floor, students said.

A 15-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria town fell off from the third floor of her school building and died on Monday. The girl's family has alleged that she was thrown off by someone and asked for a detailed investigation. Neetu Chauhan, a class XI student, had gone to a toilet on the third floor of the school building. Parents of the girl have lodged a police complaint against unknown persons, alleging that their daughter was thrown off the third floor.
